About the Role

Under direction of the Employment Services Network supervisor, the Career Counselor provides extensive career and educational counseling, intensive workplace readiness training, career planning and placement assistance, case management, training, and follow-up services to eligible program participants, including youth and/or individuals with disabilities.
The major responsibilities of the position include:
· Conduct community outreach to identify and recruit potential program participants and employment partners
· Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with funding sources and other support agencies in order to optimize contracted levels of services
· Conduct in-person, telephone, or video interviews with potential participants to determine eligibility, identify barriers to employment, and assess educational, employment, and training needs
· Assist participants with enrollment into program services and perform orientation for enrolled individuals
· Administer and proctor relevant participant assessments
· Work with participant to develop highly individualized service strategies and employment plans
· Monitor participants’ progress and program outcomes while maintaining detailed written and electronic records
· Regularly communicate progress with participants and their relevant support persons
· Match program participants with local work experiences corresponding to their individual interests and abilities and perform regular site visits to ensure employment objectives are being met
· Assist participants in applying to, enrolling in, and/or registering for transitional activities after program objectives have been met
· Provide referrals to essential academic, vocational, and social services as well as relevant follow-up services
· Prepare and submit in a timely manner all monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reports
The major responsibilities and skills of the applicants of the position include:
· Ability to provide outstanding customer service while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality
· Thorough understanding of job searching, local job market, job matching systems, federal, state, and local labor and child labor laws and regulations, and other related items
· Ability to effectively interact with a variety of personalities from diverse socio-economic populations
· Ability to work in a team environment and provide support to fellow team members
· Excellent problem solving, organizational, and time management skills
· Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, especially over the telephone and via email
· Extensive knowledge and proficiency in a variety of computer software applications, especially Outlook and Excel
Minimum qualifications include:
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in counseling, education, social work, or related field
· Two years’ work experience in secondary or higher education, counseling, case management, social work, or related field
Other requirements include:
· Valid NJ driver’s license
· Successful completion of criminal background check and drug screening
